About Erik Rosenlund

Born in 1975, Erik Rosenlund worked as an illustrator and a maker of comics before attempting the art of animation and beginning to learn the craft in his spare time. And though he believes in learning things yourself by trial and error, he later studied two years at the animation department at the Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Eksjö, Sweden.

Shortly before his graduation, he began working on The Dark Side of the Morning. An expressionistic black comedy that he later finished at home at his own expense. It has since been shown at numerous film festivals and received three awards.

Compulsion, his second short film, premiered 2003 at the Cannes Film Festival, as one of the seven competition films in the International Critics' Week. It has since been sold to television in seven countries.

In his third film Butler he continued to develop his visual style inspired by early 20th century art. This time with a lot of art nouveau motifs. The nine minute film took
18 months to produce. It has since participated in more than 50 festivals and been shown on tv in six countries.

The Dark Side of the Morning

In the horror film Looking Glass, 2007, Erik Rosenlund returned to the style of The Dark Side of the Morning, but this time taking the visuals one step further, working a lot more with depth and shadows. The film was co-produced by Swedish television SVT and Finnish television YLE.

In April 2007 it was announced that Looking Glass was one of the selected short films for the official competition at the Cannes Film Festival.
